About Frozen Assets

The Frozen Assets fundraiser was established in 2008 by the Hubbardston Business Association to provide income for itself and to enable it to make donations to organizations that benefit the citizens of Hubbardston. Frozen Assets was an ice-out contest in which a specially built outhouse is placed on Bent’s Pond off of Route 68 in Hubbardston in February. People buy tickets to guess the date and time that the ice will thaw enough to allow the outhouse to break through. The person with the closest guess won a large cash prize, and the runners-up are awarded prizes that have been donated by area businesses. Frozen Assets was funded by the sponsorship of area businesses and by ticket sales to the public.

In 2012 it was decided to discontinue this fundraiser and its future is yet to be determined. There are a number of organizations in Hubbarddston that could benefit from this fundraiser, and the HBA is exploring its options.

The outhouse sank on April 5 and was retrieved on April 8 by the Hubbardston Fire Department's ice rescue team. But when the door was opened, a soggy mess was revealed, and the exact sink time could not be determined. So the winners were selected by a drawing that was held at the April 14 HBA meeting at the Hubbardston Rod and Gun Club.
